Insuring Against Crime

Below are some estimates of protecting against specific crimes for a particular area in Texas. See the detail's at Gil Guillory's homepage. The fees would pay for protection by a private security company which would be "liable for losses due to crime on your property." It is a well-known fact that private educational facilities are run more efficiently than public ones, at least in the US. There is no reason to think the same doesn't hold for public vs. private security. Anyhow, it is great to see some estimates of such costs.

To insure against the peril of murder, assuming each victim’s estate would be given 1 million USD, it would cost about $8 a year per household.

To insure against the peril of rape, assuming each victim would be given 50,000 USD, it would cost about $21 a year per household.

To insure against the peril of battery/assault, assuming each victim would be made whole for monetary losses only, it would cost about $3 a year per household.
