The whole point of a UBI is that there is no “outside” to bring money in from – its universal. In other words, while you were getting richer, your neighbours were getting poor.
"It is impossible for these useless “trials” to measure the cost to everyone who was taxed to fund the experiment and what the benefits would have been to other sectors of the economy if they received a tax cut. They can never provide legitimate evidence on the overall benefits and costs of a UBI."
"But those who tended to think in the PAST were much more inclined to carry out their intention to quit."
Moreover, unfortunately, there is no such thing as a federal paid sick leave law. As a result, as Olga Khazan wrote in The Atlantic, “Americans are some of the only workers in the Western world who risk getting fired if they don’t drag their sick selves into work.”
"Covid’s disruptions have pushed many people to retire, resign or just not return to work. But its effects run deeper. By keeping so many people in place, the pandemic has made humanity’s demographic imbalance more obvious — rapidly aging rich nations produce too few new workers, while countries with a surplus of young people often lack work for all."
I suppose only of interest to those relying on the checks, but it does show how many programs there are and how unstable the lives of many Americans has become.
This is the original article in an obscure magazine which got him to look into the matter of Bullshit Jobs in greater detail and led to a book.
